Anti-doping: Update on the dispute between WADA and RUSADA

FAI followed with a watchful eye the dispute between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA). The outcome of the dispute has implications for the FAI community and its events, as FAI is an IOC-recognised Federation and a signatory to the World Anti-Doping Code.

The recent developments include:

  • 13 December 2019: WADA’s conference call with the International Federations and Major Event Organisations to complete the information provided following the non-compliance decision by WADA.
  • 27 December 2019: RUSADA’s decision to dispute this endorsement at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
  • 17 December 2020: Ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to declare the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code (Code) for a period of two years and to impose significant consequences
  • 19 February 2021 : Publication by the IOC of a framework for a consistent implementation by IFs at World Championships, to support IFs to remain compliant in implementing the CAS Award
  • 4 March 2021: Publication of FAI Guidelines for implementation of CAS decision regarding the participation of Russian athletes in FAI events in 2021 and 2022
  • 26 March 2021: FAI written assessment related to the organization of the FAI World Parachuting Championships to take place in Tanay, Russia in August 2021
