Harm, risks and consequences

HARM OF DOPING TO "THE SPIRIT OF SPORT"

The FAI is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As such, it adheres to the "Olympic Charter" and "the fundamental principles of Olympism".

"Olympism is a philosophy of exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of the body, will and mind. Blending sport with culture and education. Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy found in effort, the educational value of good example, and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles."

Doping violates these fundamental principles.

RISKS: Are SUPPLEMENTS safe to take?

Extreme caution is recommended regarding supplement use. The use of dietary supplements by athletes is a serious concern because, in many countries, the manufacturing and labelling of supplements is not regulated, which may lead to a supplement containing an undeclared substance that is prohibited under anti-doping regulations.

A significant number of positive tests have been caused by the misuse of supplements. However, attributing an Adverse Analytical Finding to a poorly labelled dietary supplement is not adequate defence in a doping hearing.

The risks of taking supplements should be weighed against the potential benefit that may be obtained. Athletes must also appreciate the negative consequences of an Anti-Doping Rule Violation as a result of taking a contaminated supplement .

SOCIAL CONSEQUENCES OF DOPING

If you are found to be involved in doping, the social consequences can be wide ranging and extremely detrimental to all areas of your life.

"The goal of Olympism is to place sport at the service of the harmonious development of humankind, with a view to promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of the human dignity."
