4th FAI Pan American PG Championship has finally launched in Brazil
After 2 days of rain the 4th FAI Pan American Paragliding Championship has finally got on rails. The event takes place in Baixo Guandu, Brazil from March 7 to 14, 2020. 117 pilots from 21 countries have come to fly in the competition but only citizens of South and North Americas have the right for champions title - hence narrowing the competition to 101 pilots from 11 countries.
On Saturday the registration began with health check - the new reality we have due to to the outbreak of the virus. Thay day was rainy so no training flights were made.
The opening ceremony took place in the evening. The participants were greeted by the major of Baixo Guando, the organizing team headed by Frank Brown and FAI Officials: Sergio Massahito Kawakami (BRA) Andrew Cowley (GBR), Jamie Shelden (USA), Fabio Loro (ITA).
The first task was set only on March 9th, very short due to weather conditions - 37 km Race to goal.
The leaders after the first task are:
1 JULIO IGNACIO ORTIZ (ARG)
2 RAFAEL SALADINI (BRA)
3 CRISTIANO RICCI DA SILVA VERMELHO (BRA)
The second task - 47 km race to goal takes place on March 10th.
