Tough competition at the 2024 FAI F5J European Championships for Electric Powered Thermal Duration Gliders
Seven rounds of junior and senior classes have been completed at the 2024 FAI F5J European Championships for Electric Powered Thermal Duration Gliders, now on its third day of competition in Deva, Romania.
Three more days of qualifications will take place, with the final rounds happening at the end of the week before the championships come to a close on 31 August. The expected number of rounds for the qualification phase will be 16.
The weather has kept competitors on their toes: conditions have changed from day to day and the pilots must adjust their models accordingly to optimise each flight. Competition is therefore very tough!
As is noticeable from the scores, the difference between the competitors is very small and the ranking is therefore changing almost every round.
FAI Aeromodelling Commission (CIAM) President and Jury Member Antonis Papadopoulos remarked that: “It is important to note that the Junior class is also very tough; you can hardly discern the difference between the senior and junior pilots."
